SimHub profiles: what they are and where to get them
Last updated · SimHub 9.11.22
A SimHub profile is a saved configuration — the LED definitions, effects, groups and device settings for a piece of hardware — stored as a .tfp file. Import one through SimHub's profile menu and re-upload it to the device to apply it. Profiles are remembered per game, so the same hardware can behave differently in a rally game and a GT game. They live in %localappdata%, which means the Local User Settings Reset deletes every profile you have.
Profiles are the least discussed and most useful thing to back up in SimHub. If you have spent an evening configuring LEDs, that evening is a file, and it is a file inside a folder that one of SimHub's own repair options deletes.
What a .tfp file contains
A complete configuration for a device: every LED effect with its position, count, colour and mirroring; every group with its assembly mode and conditions; and the device settings that go with them.
It is not firmware. Flashing an Arduino and applying a profile are separate steps — the firmware decides what the hardware can do, and the profile decides what it does. That distinction matters when something is wrong: if a device is not detected at all, no profile will help; if it is detected and behaving oddly, a profile is exactly what to look at.
Profiles are remembered per game. The same physical device can be a rev bar in one game and a flag panel in another, with no reconfiguration when you switch. This is why importing a profile does not overwrite everything you have — it applies to the context you are in.
Importing and applying one
Download the .tfp file
Save it somewhere you will find it again — profiles are worth keeping alongside your own backups rather than leaving in Downloads.
Import it from SimHub's profile menu
In the relevant section — LED, matrix or device settings depending on what the profile is for.
Re-upload it to the device
The step people miss. Importing loads the profile into SimHub; the device does not have it until you push it out. If a profile appears to do nothing, this is almost always why.
Check it against the real thing
Use the test data editor to sweep RPM and trigger conditions without driving. Ten seconds against ten minutes of loading a session.
Backing up your own
The Local User Settings Reset deletes every profile you have. Profiles live in %localappdata%, along with your dashboards, settings and licence. That folder is what the second rung of SimHub's repair ladder clears — and people reach it by following troubleshooting advice that does not mention the cost.
Two things worth doing before you ever need them:
- Export your profiles to files and keep them with your other backups.
- Copy
%localappdata%wholesale. It takes seconds and it covers dashboards and the licence at the same time.
Exported profiles are also how you move a setup to a new PC, and how you share one with someone who has the same hardware.
Where community profiles come from
There is no official profile repository, the same as with dashboards and plugins. What exists:
- The SimHub forum. Readable and searchable without an account; registration is currently paused for spam.
- Discord. The primary live channel, and where most sharing happens now.
- Hardware makers' own sites. Anyone selling a SimHub-driven device usually publishes a profile for it — including us, below.
- OverTake and similar download sites.
A profile is written for specific hardware. A profile expecting 16 LEDs applied to a 24-LED strip will not use the last eight, and one built for an 8×8 matrix means nothing on a linear strip. Check the LED count and layout a profile was made for before assuming it is broken.
OESimRacing device profiles
Our devices ship pre-flashed and configured, so you should never need these in normal use. They are here for the case where a profile has been overwritten, a settings reset has cleared it, or support asks you to reflash.
| Device | File | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Rev Gauge | rev-lights-oesimracing-profile.tfp | SimHub .tfp · 81 KB |
| Gear Indicator + Shift Lights | gear-indicator-oesimracing-profile.tfp | SimHub .tfp · 81 KB |
| iFlag: GT Edition | iflag-oesimracing-profile.tfp | SimHub .tfp · 81 KB |
Pick the profile matching your device, import it through SimHub's profile menu, then re-upload it to the device. The setup guide covers the whole process for our hardware in context.
If you are curious what is inside them rather than just applying them, the configurations are documented in the open: the rev bar's numbers are on the RGB LED page and the iFlag's priority ordering is on the matrix page. Nothing about them is secret and you can rebuild either from scratch.
When a profile does not work
| Symptom | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| Imported but nothing changed | Not re-uploaded to the device — the step people miss |
| Some LEDs never light | The profile was built for fewer LEDs than you have |
| Everything is in the wrong place | Different LED count or layout than the profile expects |
| Works in one game, not another | Profiles are per game — check which one is active |
| Effects are missing entirely | The game may not provide that telemetry at all |
| Device not detected | Not a profile problem — see Arduino not detected |
The last row is worth repeating: a profile cannot fix a device that SimHub cannot see. If the hardware is absent from the device list, stop looking at profiles.
Common questions
What is a .tfp file in SimHub?
A saved profile — a complete configuration for a device, containing LED effects with their positions, counts and colours, the groups and conditions around them, and the associated device settings. It is not firmware; flashing hardware and applying a profile are separate steps.
How do I import a SimHub profile?
Through SimHub's profile menu in the relevant section, then re-upload it to the device. That second step is the one people miss — importing loads the profile into SimHub, and the hardware does not have it until you push it out.
Where are SimHub profiles stored?
In %localappdata%, alongside your dashboards, settings and licence. That is also what the Local User Settings Reset clears, so export your profiles or copy that folder before running any repair.
Can I use someone else's SimHub profile?
Yes, if your hardware matches. A profile written for 16 LEDs applied to a 24-LED strip will leave eight unused, and one built for an 8×8 matrix means nothing on a linear strip. Check the LED count and layout it was made for first.
Do I need the profile files if my device came pre-configured?
No, not in normal use. They exist for the cases where a profile has been overwritten, a settings reset has cleared it, or support asks you to reflash.
Why does my profile work in one game but not another?
Profiles are remembered per game, so you may be looking at a different profile than the one you configured. It can also be that the second game does not provide the telemetry an effect needs — SimHub states plainly that feature support varies with what each game sends.
Where can I find community SimHub profiles?
There is no official repository. The SimHub forum is searchable without an account, Discord is where most sharing happens now, and hardware makers generally publish profiles for their own devices.
