SimHub with Forza Motorsport
Last updated · SimHub 9.11.22
Forza Motorsport broadcasts telemetry over UDP through its "data out" setting, off by default. Turn it on, point it at 127.0.0.1 for a same-PC setup or your PC's address from an Xbox, and enable the game in SimHub. Like Forza Horizon, the Microsoft Store version runs inside an AppContainer sandbox that blocks loopback connections by default — which is exactly the path SimHub needs — and that accounts for most reports of a correctly configured setup receiving nothing.
Everything here also applies to Forza Motorsport 7, which SimHub supports as part of the same entry.
How it works
UDP broadcast, configured in the game's data out options. SimHub listens on the port you set.
Being UDP, it works from an Xbox over the network, and only one application can receive the stream at a time.
SimHub's supported list carries Forza Motorsport 7–8 as a single entry, so this covers both the 2017 title and the 2023 one.
Setting it up
Enable Data Out in the game
In Forza Motorsport's settings under HUD and Gameplay. Off by default.
Set the IP and port
127.0.0.1for the same PC, or your PC's IP from an Xbox. The port must match what SimHub is listening on.Check the data format
Forza offers packet format options. If SimHub receives packets but the values are wrong, this is the setting to look at.
Allow SimHub through the firewall
Both Private and Public profiles.
Enable it in SimHub
Tick it in the game list.
Forza Motorsport gotchas
The Microsoft Store AppContainer problem applies here too. Store games run sandboxed, and that sandbox blocks loopback connections by default — traffic from the game to another application on the same PC. Since SimHub receives on 127.0.0.1, that is the exact path being blocked, and everything else about your configuration will look correct. The Steam version does not have this problem, which makes it a useful diagnostic.
- Data out is off by default. Every Forza title, every time.
- Wrong values rather than no values points at the packet format setting rather than at the connection.
- On Xbox this is all simpler, because the data is going to a different machine and the AppContainer loopback restriction does not apply.
- Only one app gets the stream. If it stopped when you opened something else, use UDP forwarding.
What works well here
Unlike Horizon, Forza Motorsport is circuit racing, so lap times, deltas and position all belong on the dashboard. It is a much more conventional sim racing setup.
The car range is still very wide — road cars through to prototypes — so percentage-based shift lights remain the right choice, and per-car calibration is worth doing for whatever you race most.
Haptics work well. Kerb and road effects are the ones that carry the most information on a circuit, and the surface variety is lower than in Horizon, so a road texture effect can be tuned more precisely.
Common questions
How do I connect SimHub to Forza Motorsport?
Enable Data Out in the game's settings under HUD and Gameplay — it is off by default — then set the IP to 127.0.0.1 for a same-PC setup, or your PC's address if you are playing on Xbox. Tick the game in SimHub and allow it through the firewall.
Why is SimHub receiving nothing from Forza Motorsport?
If everything looks correctly configured, suspect the Microsoft Store version's AppContainer sandbox, which blocks loopback connections by default. That is exactly the path SimHub uses when the game is on the same PC. The Steam version does not have the problem.
SimHub gets Forza data but the values are wrong.
That points at the packet format setting rather than the connection — Forza offers format options and a mismatch produces plausible-looking but incorrect values. Receiving nothing is a connection problem; receiving nonsense is a format problem.
Does SimHub support Forza Motorsport 7?
Yes. SimHub's supported list carries Forza Motorsport 7–8 as a single entry, so both the 2017 title and the 2023 one are covered by the same setup.
Is Xbox setup different from PC?
Simpler, in fact. On Xbox the data goes to a different machine, so the AppContainer loopback restriction that affects the Store version on PC does not apply. Set data out to your PC's IP and make sure the PC's network profile is Private.
What should a Forza Motorsport dashboard show?
Lap time, delta, position and fuel — it is circuit racing, so a conventional sim racing dashboard is right. That is the main difference from Forza Horizon, where lap-based information is largely irrelevant.
