SimHub with EA Sports WRC
Last updated · SimHub 9.11.22
EA Sports WRC broadcasts telemetry over UDP and is PC only on SimHub's supported list. Enable UDP telemetry in the game's settings, point it at 127.0.0.1, and tick the game in SimHub. Rally changes what is worth configuring: there is no lap, no position and no one else on track, so a dashboard built for circuit racing is mostly empty, and surface haptics matter far more than they do on tarmac.
Rally is the case where copying a circuit racing setup gives you the worst results, and it is worth rethinking rather than reusing.
How it works
UDP broadcast, in the Codemasters tradition — EA Sports WRC inherits the telemetry approach used across the Dirt and F1 titles.
Marked PC on SimHub's supported list. Only one application can receive the UDP stream, as always.
Setting it up
Enable UDP telemetry in the game
In EA Sports WRC's settings. Off by default, as in every Codemasters title.
Set the IP and port
127.0.0.1for a same-PC setup, with a port matching SimHub.Enable the game in SimHub and open the firewall
Both Private and Public profiles.
Run a stage
Values should appear. A single stage in any mode is enough to confirm.
EA Sports WRC gotchas
- Telemetry is off by default. The usual Codemasters starting point.
- PC only on the supported list.
- Only one app gets the stream.
- Circuit dashboards do not fit. No lap time, no position, no gap — a dashboard built for circuit racing will be largely empty and will waste its space on fields that never populate.
What rally actually wants
This is the section worth reading, because rally rewards a different configuration from everything else on this list.
On the dashboard: stage time, split, distance remaining and gear. Not position, not lap, not gap to the car ahead — there is no car ahead. Fewer fields, larger, because you are looking at the road far more of the time than you would on a circuit.
On haptics: surface effects are the whole point. On a circuit, road texture is a background sensation; on a gravel stage it is primary information, and it is telling you about grip you cannot see. This is the sim where a well-tuned road texture effect earns its place most clearly.
On shift lights: rally cars spend a lot of time in the middle of the rev range and shift by ear more than by light, so shift lights matter less here than in circuit racing. Do not spend an evening on them.
On general intensity: higher than a circuit setup. Gravel and snow produce more chassis noise than tarmac, and a profile tuned for a smooth circuit will feel flat here.
Common questions
How do I enable telemetry in EA Sports WRC?
In the game's settings, turn on UDP telemetry — it is off by default, as in every Codemasters title — and set the IP to 127.0.0.1 with a port matching SimHub. Then tick the game in SimHub's list.
Does SimHub work with EA Sports WRC on console?
It is marked PC on SimHub's supported games list, so PC is the supported route.
Why is my dashboard mostly empty in EA Sports WRC?
Because it was probably built for circuit racing. Rally has no lap time, no position and no gap to the car ahead, so those fields never populate. Use a dashboard designed for rally: stage time, split, distance remaining and gear.
Should haptics be set differently for rally?
Yes, and more intensely. Surface effects are primary information on a gravel stage rather than background sensation as they are on a circuit, and gravel and snow produce more chassis noise than tarmac — a profile tuned for a smooth circuit will feel flat.
Do shift lights matter in rally?
Less than in circuit racing. Rally cars spend much of their time in the middle of the rev range and drivers shift by ear more than by light. It is not worth spending an evening tuning them here.
Is Dirt Rally 2.0 set up the same way?
Broadly, yes — the same Codemasters UDP approach and the same PC-only listing. Dirt Rally 2.0 additionally has a known issue with a missing car names data file.
