SimHub with Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator
Last updated · SimHub 9.11.22
Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator need a telemetry plugin installed into the game folder — SimHub can install it for you, and it is x64 only. Once installed, the game loads it at startup and publishes data SimHub reads. The gotcha is that verifying game files through Steam removes the plugin, as can a major game update, so telemetry stopping for no apparent reason usually means the plugin needs reinstalling.
The truck simulators are also the games most likely to send you to Control Mapper, because they cap how many simultaneous controllers they will accept.
How it works
Neither UDP nor shared memory. SimHub installs a telemetry DLL into the game's own folder, and the game loads it as a plugin at startup. The plugin then publishes data SimHub can read.
x64 only. The 32-bit builds of these games are not supported. If you are running a 32-bit executable for any reason, there is no telemetry route at all.
Because the plugin lives inside the game folder, anything that restores or verifies those files will remove it — which is the source of nearly every problem on this page.
Setting it up
Let SimHub install the plugin
SimHub offers to install the telemetry plugin into the game folder. Accept — you do not need to place the file by hand.
Confirm you are running the 64-bit build
Which is the default on any modern install, but worth checking if telemetry never works at all.
Restart the game
The plugin is loaded at startup. Installing it while the game is running changes nothing until you restart.
Enable the game in SimHub
Tick it in the game list.
Drive
Values should appear. If nothing does, the plugin is not loaded — reinstall it and restart the game.
Truck simulator gotchas
Verifying game files removes the plugin. Steam's "verify integrity of game files" deletes anything that is not part of the official install — including SimHub's telemetry DLL. So does a major game update sometimes. If telemetry stopped and you recently verified files or the game updated, reinstall the plugin. This accounts for most reports of it breaking spontaneously.
- x64 only. No route at all on a 32-bit build.
- The plugin loads at startup. Installing it mid-session does nothing until you restart the game.
- Controller limits. Both games cap how many simultaneous controllers they accept, which is the most common reason people find Control Mapper — it presents several devices as one.
- ETS2 and ATS are separate entries in SimHub, though they share the same plugin approach.
- The TruckSimulatorPlugin is a separate community SimHub plugin adding extras for these games — not the same thing as the telemetry DLL, and not required.
What works well here
Truck simulators want a different dashboard from a racing game. There is no lap time, no position and no delta; what matters is fuel, distance, cargo, speed limit and — critically — the many warning states a truck has.
This is one of the better cases for a multi-screen dashboard with screen switching bound to a button: a driving screen, a route and cargo screen, and a truck status screen, paged through as needed.
Haptics are worth setting up but want low intensity. These are long sessions in a vehicle that communicates through weight and inertia rather than through sharp transients, and an aggressive shaker profile is exhausting over a two-hour delivery.
The controller aggregation point is worth repeating: if you run a wheel, a shifter, a handbrake and a button box, these games may simply refuse to see all of them. Control Mapper is the answer and it is bundled.
Common questions
How do I set up SimHub with Euro Truck Simulator 2?
Let SimHub install its telemetry plugin into the game folder, restart the game so the plugin loads at startup, and tick the game in SimHub's list. The plugin is x64 only — there is no route on a 32-bit build.
Why did ETS2 telemetry stop working?
Almost certainly because SimHub's telemetry plugin was removed from the game folder. Steam's "verify integrity of game files" deletes anything that is not part of the official install, and major game updates can too. Reinstall the plugin from SimHub and restart the game.
Does SimHub work with the 32-bit version of ETS2?
No. The telemetry plugin is x64 only, so there is no route on a 32-bit build. The 64-bit executable is the default on any modern install.
Why won't ETS2 recognise all my controllers?
Both truck simulators cap how many simultaneous controllers they accept. SimHub's bundled Control Mapper plugin solves it by presenting several devices as a single virtual controller — this is the most common reason people find that plugin at all.
Is American Truck Simulator set up the same way?
Yes — the same plugin approach, the same x64 requirement, the same file-verification problem. They are separate entries in SimHub, so ticking one does not enable the other.
What should a truck simulator dashboard show?
Fuel, distance, cargo, speed limit and truck warning states — not lap times, position or delta, none of which exist. It is a good case for a multi-screen dashboard with screen switching bound to a wheel button.
