SimHub with the F1 games
Last updated · SimHub 9.11.22
The Codemasters F1 games broadcast telemetry over UDP, which has to be switched on inside the game — it is off by default. Set the UDP telemetry option to on, point the IP at your PC, and enable the game in SimHub. Because it is UDP, this works from consoles as well as PC, and it also means only one application can receive the stream: running CrewChief or another dash simultaneously requires SimHub's UDP forwarding. The F1 series has the best-documented console telemetry of any racing game.
One entry on SimHub's supported list covers F1 2012 through F1 25 — fourteen games — and the setup has been broadly the same throughout.
How it works
UDP broadcast. The game sends telemetry packets to an IP address and port that you configure inside the game, and SimHub listens for them.
This is the mechanism that makes console support possible: the packets travel over your home network, so a PS5 or Xbox can send to a Windows PC running SimHub.
Only one application can receive the stream. This is the defining property of UDP telemetry. CrewChief, Track Titan, a second dashboard tool — whichever claims the port first gets the data and everything else gets nothing. The fix is UDP forwarding, where SimHub receives and re-broadcasts.
Setting it up
Open the game's telemetry settings
In the F1 games this lives under Settings → Telemetry Settings. It is off by default in every one of them.
Turn UDP Telemetry on
The master switch. Nothing else on this page matters until it is on.
Set the IP address
127.0.0.1if the game is on the same PC as SimHub. Your PC's IP address if you are playing on a console.Set the send rate
Higher rates give smoother effects at slightly more network traffic. On a local network the traffic is irrelevant, so pick a high rate.
Check the UDP format matches the game
The F1 games offer a format version. Leave it at the current one unless something specifically requires otherwise.
Enable the game in SimHub and allow the firewall
Both Private and Public profiles. This is real network traffic, so the firewall is in the way.
F1 series gotchas
- Telemetry is off by default in every title. Every year, in every version. This is the single most common reason SimHub sees nothing.
- Only one app gets the stream. If it stopped working when you opened something else, that is why.
- A console needs your PC's IP, not
127.0.0.1. And it needs the PC to keep that IP, so give it a fixed address in your router. - The network profile must be Private. A Public profile isolates the PC from other devices on the network, which breaks console telemetry entirely.
- Each year is a new game but the same SimHub entry. Settings do not carry over between titles — you enable telemetry again in each.
What works well here
The F1 games provide a solid telemetry set, and the ERS and deployment data is interesting to put on a dashboard — it is the sort of thing that is hard to read from the in-game HUD while driving.
For shift lights, modern F1 cars rev very high and the useful band is narrow, so a percentage range with a high floor works better than usual. The default advice of around 38% is arguably too low here — try higher.
Haptics work, though a formula car communicates less through the seat than a GT car by nature. Kerb and road effects are the ones that pay off.
Common questions
How do I enable telemetry in F1 for SimHub?
In the game, go to Settings → Telemetry Settings and turn UDP Telemetry on — it is off by default in every F1 title. Set the IP to 127.0.0.1 if the game is on the same PC as SimHub, or to your PC's IP address if you are playing on a console.
Does SimHub work with F1 on PS5 or Xbox?
Yes. The F1 series broadcasts telemetry over UDP, which travels over your network, so a Windows PC running SimHub can receive it. Set the telemetry IP in the game to your PC's address and make sure the PC's network profile is Private.
Why did SimHub stop getting F1 data when I opened CrewChief?
Only one application can receive a UDP stream, and whichever claims the port first keeps it. Use SimHub's UDP forwarding to receive the stream and re-broadcast it to another port for the second application.
Which F1 games does SimHub support?
F1 2012 through F1 25 — the official supported list carries them as a single entry covering fourteen games. The setup has been broadly the same throughout, though telemetry must be enabled separately in each title.
What send rate should I use for F1 telemetry?
A high one. Higher rates give smoother effects at the cost of slightly more network traffic, and on a local network that traffic is irrelevant.
What RPM range should shift lights use in F1?
A higher floor than usual. Modern F1 cars rev very high with a narrow useful band, so a range starting around the common 38% leaves the bar lit more than it should be. Raise the floor and test.
