SimHub with Gran Turismo 7

Last updated · SimHub 9.11.22

Gran Turismo 7 broadcasts telemetry over UDP on ports 33739 and 33740, which a Windows PC on the same network can receive. You give SimHub your PlayStation's IP address, allow SimHub through the Windows firewall on both profiles, set the PC's network to Private, and enable the game in SimHub. Everything downstream then works — dashboards, LEDs, bass shakers, wind and motion. What does not work is an overlay, because the console's video never passes through the PC.

This is the most-asked console question in sim racing, and the answer is a good one: it works, it works well, and it needs no purchase beyond a PC you probably already have.

How it works

The PlayStation broadcasts telemetry over your home network as UDP packets. A Windows PC on the same network receives them and SimHub treats them exactly as it would data from a PC game.

Unusually, SimHub needs the console's IP rather than the other way round. In most UDP games you tell the game where to send. With GT7, SimHub asks the console — so the address you enter into SimHub is the PlayStation's, not the PC's. This trips up people who have set up an F1 game before.

Setting it up

  1. Put the PlayStation and the PC on the same network

The same normal network — not one on guest WiFi, which isolates clients by design. Wired is more reliable for both, though wireless works.

  2. Find the PlayStation's IP address

On the console: Settings → Network → View Connection Status. Write it down. Give the console a fixed address in your router if you can, so it does not change after a reboot.

  3. Enter that IP in SimHub

In SimHub's Gran Turismo 7 settings. This is the console's address, not the PC's.

  4. Allow SimHub through the firewall

On both Private and Public profiles, and set the PC's network profile to Private. A Public profile isolates the PC from other devices, which is exactly what breaks this.

  5. Enable Gran Turismo 7 in SimHub

Tick it in the game list.

  6. Drive

Values should appear on SimHub's home screen. Any race or time trial will do.

GT7 gotchas

What works well here

Everything SimHub drives with hardware works exactly as it does on PC: shift lights, RGB bars, bass shakers, wind and motion. The console is a data source and nothing else, so the PC side is unchanged.

The natural display for a GT7 setup is a phone — no extra hardware, nothing on the television, and an old phone on a stand next to the wheel is a good dash. A small USB display mounted on the rig is the tidier permanent version.

GT7 covers an enormous range of cars, from road cars to Group C, so percentage-based shift light configuration is essential. Absolute RPM would be wrong for almost every car in the game.

Common questions

What ports does Gran Turismo 7 use for telemetry?

UDP ports 33739 and 33740. Allow SimHub through the Windows firewall on both Private and Public profiles, and make sure the PC's network profile is set to Private.

Does SimHub work with GT7 on PS5?

Yes, on PS4 and PS5. The console broadcasts telemetry over your home network and a Windows PC running SimHub receives it. You still need the PC — there is no console version of SimHub.

Which IP address do I enter for GT7?

The PlayStation's, not the PC's. This is the reverse of most UDP games and it is the most common mistake. Find it on the console under Settings → Network → View Connection Status.

Can I get a SimHub overlay on my TV with GT7?

No. The PlayStation's video goes directly to the television and never passes through the PC, so SimHub has nothing to draw on. Use a phone, a second monitor or a USB display instead — a phone is free and works well.

GT7 telemetry worked and then stopped.

Most likely the PlayStation's IP address changed — routers hand out addresses on a lease and a reboot or power cut can change it. Re-check the console's address, and give it a fixed one in your router to stop it happening again.

Do bass shakers work with GT7?

Yes, fully. The PC receives the telemetry and drives the shakers through its own audio interface. The console is not involved beyond sending data, so everything SimHub does with hardware works normally.
